“A new framework to study the complexity of an image, based on information theory, is introduced. Until now, only a single framework was defined to our knowledge, aimed at comparing the performance of different automatic target recognition methods. Also, image complexity has been vaguely related to the entropy, or information content, of the image intensity histogram. However, this disregards the spatial distribution of pixels, as well as the fact that a complexity measure must take into account at what level one wants to describe an object.”
